New "fast" nuclear reactors can solve Britain's radioactive waste problem by using the "waste" as fuel. This can provide as much as 500 years of zero-carbon electricity, according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc).
Britain's stockpile of nuclear waste includes more than 100 tonnes of plutonium and 35,000 tonnes of depleted uranium.
